Fit Coach Workout Gear

December 22, 2018

As coaches, we love trying new gear, gadgets, and all around good stuff to help make the most out of our workouts. Here are some of the items that we use and think are pretty helpful!

 Christie's Workout Gear

1. iPad - I need something more than music when I hit the treadmill. I will often catch up on a new show I am watching or re-watch some of my favorite shows. You will frequently see me watching The Amazing Race, The Sopranos, and, of course, Game of Thrones.

2. Yeti Water Bottle - My Yeti is my lifesaver. Yetis are fantastic because they maintain the temperature of your drink of choice. Ice can last as long as 12 hours in a Yeti! This water bottle is a lifesaver, especially during the hot Texas summers.

3. Loose Top - I am one of the sweatiest females you will ever find, and I DO NOT like the feeling of sweat clinging to my body. This is precisely why I choose to work out in loose tops. Our Koko tank tops are great when it comes to comfort and style!

4. Brooks Running Shoes - I have been prone to ankle sprains for as long as I can remember. Therefore, it is crucial that I purchase the right running shoes. I always go to Fleet Feet when getting footwear because their professional staff and high tech way of measuring one's feet guarantee that you will be leaving with the correct fit for you. My Brooks are made specifically for people who need extra stability, so they are perfect for me!

5. Ankle Wrap - As I mentioned, I have had problems with my ankles since I was a child. It is not uncommon for my right ankle to feel sore after a long run. On days it is feeling particularly sore, I use my ankle wrap to both ease the pain and prevent injury.

 Bill's Workout Gear

1. ACDC Music - We all have different ways to keep up entertained when we are working out. Bill listens to ACDC. :)

2. MyZone Belt - Many of our members enjoy their MyZone belts. The MyZone belt will show you what your heart rate is throughout your workouts, therefore giving you a very accurate count of how many calories you have burned and how intense of a workout you endured.

3. Water Bottle - It goes without saying that water is crucial when you are working out. You can bring your own water bottle, drink from the water provided in water jugs/water fountains at the facilities, or purchase an ice-cold bottle of water from the coolers for just $1.

Debbi's Workout Gear

1. Feetures Elite Socks: Feetures Socks are the #1 socks for runners. It offers targeted compression and a seamless toe that is ideal for long distance running.

2. Karhu Running Shoes: Just as I love my Brooks shoes, Debbi loves her Karhu shoes! We all have a different foot shape, and we all need to find the correct fit. It is worth spending some extra money on! Painful blisters can KILL a great workout.

3. Runkeeper App: Debbi is one of 45 million runners who use the Runkeeper App. It is a great way to keep track of distance, especially if you are training for a 5k, 10k, half marathon, or marathon.

4. Tailwind Endurance Fuel: Tailwind is a favorite among runners. It is easy on the body and it helps absorb nutrients critical for long distance runs.

5. Addaday Deep Tissue Leg Massage Roller: As you can probably tell, Debbi is a long distance runner. As runners, our legs can get tight and sore if proper steps are not taken. Leg rollers are a great way to rub out the knots we tend to get in our legs after a long run.

Nikki's Workout Gear

1. Phone for Music: Like many people, Nikki loves to listen to music while she works out. Music, podcasts, radio, or TV/Movies are all great ways to keep our energy levels up during a trip to the gym!

2. Post Workout Protein: Following her workouts, Nikki likes to consume protein. Protein is great immediately after a workout because your muscles will soak up the nutrition for muscle recovery and growth.

3. Headphones: Whether you're listening to music or one of Michael Wood's cardio programs, headphones are a must! Luckily, all of our gyms have headphones waiting on the front desk in case you forget yours!

4. Foam Roller: Foam rollers are all the rage in the fitness community because they work! It is a cheap way of giving yourself a deep tissue massage. By slowing rolling over various areas of your body, you'll help break up adhesions and scar tissue, which will speed up the healing and recovery process after your workout.

5. Resistance Bands: A resistance band is a great tool that can be used to build muscle. Resistance-band training can help you boost stamina, flexibility, range of motion and more.
