Koko FitClub History
When Koko FitClub founders Mary Obana and Mike Lannon welcomed their son Kai into the world, they wanted to enjoy every moment of their son’s life. They made a promise to be healthier and live longer for this purpose.
However, as new parents, their life became a sea of diapers, sleepless nights, and take-out food, leaving no time for exercise. Over time, they became out of shape and overweight. So, they did what most people do: They joined a “big-box” gym and tried their best to get back in shape. Needless to say, after months of being ignored and wandering around without a training plan, they ended up where they started – still out of shape and frustrated.
They were not alone. At traditional gyms, more than 90 percent of people never receive help or coaching with their workouts. This treatment is why so many people fail and quit the gym altogether. Mary and Mike knew there had to be a better way. As entrepreneurs with tech and marketing backgrounds, they set out to find a solution, surveying thousands of people who were in the same situation: tired of the gym scene, tired of being yelled at in sweaty group classes, tired of feeling lost and ignored, and – most of all – tired of disappointing results.
Koko Fit Club Gym: Individualized, One-by-One Approach
Mary and Mike formed a team of leading exercise physiologists, M.I.T. engineers, software developers, and designers to create the alternative to mainstream fitness. Together, they invented the first and only gym that combines the power of digital technology and individualized coaching in a complete training system. A system that customizes workouts and meal plans to the needs of the individual. They also added digital coaching to ensure you complete the exercises with the proper form.
They named their enterprise Koko FitClub – the Japanese word “Koko” meaning individualized, one-by-one, and unique.
Today, there are more than 100 Koko Fit Club locations throughout North America – including Koko FitClub San Antonio - Alamo Heights – where Mike and Mary’s idea has grown into a movement. A movement that transforms the way adults stay healthy, fit, and happy for life.

Jason is an engineer by day and a Koko FitCoach by the weekend.
For years Jason worked out at CrossFit, but when he started Koko, things changed. He was able to train safely and gain more strength by using the Smartrainer and the time under tension programmed into the workouts. While he still goes to CrossFit a couple of days a week, most mornings, you can find him at the club with the 5 am group, getting in his workout.
Jason grew up playing football and walked on at the University of Texas, where he filled a linebacker spot from 1996 to 2000.
His favorite thing about Koko is the ability to get a quality workout whenever he needs it. With the 24/7 access, he doesn't have to wait for a class or schedule with a trainer. His workouts are always available.
Background: 30 years of coaching experience in High School in the San Antonio Area and four years of experience as a Koko Certified Fit Coach.

Debbi has been married to her husband, Daryl, for 30 years. She has two grown children, Colin and Matthew, as well as 2 dogs, Thor and Loki. She is retired military, was deployed twice to Iraq, and worked in specialty trauma/critical nursing for 30 years.
